The Rwanda Field Epidemiology and Laboratory Training Program (RFELTP) steering committee made a courtesy visit to the Zimbabwe FETP from 8 – 12 April 2018.
The delegation from the University of Rwanda was led by Prof Aline Umbuye, Dean School of Public Health and Professor Joseph Ntaganira, Coordinator of the Rwanda FELTP. The team were accompanied by Ms Peace Kinani; Rwanda FELTP Manager and Dr. Albert Ndagijima, a mentor with Rwanda FELTP.
The AFENET Secretariat was led by Dr. Simon Antara, the Director of Programs who led discussions between the ZIMFETP team was led by Prof Mufuta Tshimanga, Zimbabwe FETP Program Director joined by Ms Tsitsi P. Juru, Senior Assistant Field Coordinator and Scientific Writer, Mr S Chiwanda, Assistant Field Coordinator and Dr Notion Gombe, Regional Technical Coordinator, AFENET. The purpose of the visit to observe and share experiences as well as learn from the best practices and innovations employed by the ZIMFETP which received TEPHINET accreditation in 2018. The delegation met and interacted with key stakeholders in the Ministry of Health and Child Care, University of Zimbabwe and programme mentors both from Government and private organisations.
At the end of the visit, the Rwandan FELTP highlighted and appreciated the strong alumni component in the Zimbabwe program. This they say has inspired and resulted in most alumni being mentors and supervisors of the residents and the support by the Ministry Of Health and Child Care. They also appreciated the monthly feedback meeting to the ministry and key stakeholders.
