Burkina intermediate FETP residents expected to boost one health approach

Training of the 3rd cohort of the Burkina Faso intermediate FETP kicked off in Koudougou on 5 April 2022 and the current session is expected to end on 15 April 2022.

Speaking at the start of the training, the FETP program focal point person at the Ministry of Health Dr Issaka Yameogo welcomed the new residents and encouraged them to support their respective ministries in strengthening surveillance and outbreak response.

‘‘This training is important to the ministry of health for it contributes to having staff members with competences in epidemiological surveillance system and contributes to the One Heath approach,’’ he said.

Twelve participants were recruited for this cohort with 10 participants from the Ministry of Health and Public Hygiene and two participants from the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal and Fishery Resources, as part of the “one Health” approach.

Six mentors will support the residents during the nine months of training. For participants, this training will improve their skills in surveillance analysis, investigation of outbreak and data analysis. The resident trainees concurred with Dr Yameogo saying the training would improve the country’s epidemiological surveillance system.
