CALL FOR PROPOSALS
AFENET with funding from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Bureau for Global Health and in collaboration with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Office for Global Health, is issuing a competitive Call for Proposals to support efforts towards developing novel and effective strategies and interventions that will help improve public health practice in recipient countries.
Current trainees of Applied or Field Epidemiology Training Programs in Africa working with an Academic Supervisor are eligible for funding. 1.SENIOR RESEARCH SCIENTIST
The National Cancer Institute (NCI) of the US National Institutes of Health will conduct a study on Burkitt Lymphoma in Northern Uganda as a collaborative effort between NCI and St. Mary’s Hospital, Lacor. The study will clarify the role of malaria and other infections, including parasites, in Burkitt lymphoma etiology and, more broadly, the interplay between genetics, infection and immunity in cancer etiology.
Coordination and logistical support of the study will be provided by the African Field Epidemiology Network (AFENET). The study wishes to recruit a highly motivated, full-time senior research scientist who is an established cancer researcher or is interested in developing a career in cancer research to lead the field work of the study. 2.LABORATORY SCIENTIST
Reports to: Head of Programs
AFENET in collaboration with the Global AIDS Program’s (GAP)
International Laboratory Branch within the US Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention (CDC) seeks to establish a network of Public Health Laboratories in Africa.
The focus of this effort is to create a forum for regional and district laboratory
experts to network and share best practices on issues related to Integrated Quality
Management Systems Essentials for laboratory diagnosis of diseases of Public Health
Importance including HIV/AIDS, TB, and Malaria. Click here for details.
3. PROGRAM ASSISTANT
Reports to: Associate Administrator New programs
The program assistant will provide logistical support to new Field Epidemiology and
Laboratory Training programs that AFENET in collaboration with its partners are
establishing in BurkinaFaso, Ethiopia, Tanzania, and Nigeria. Click here for details.
4. DRIVER
Reports to: Administrator
The Driver will provide driving and delivery services for the office while taking charge of
the office vehicle. The driver shall also provide general office support to the Secretariat.
